Johnnie Walker serves up frozen scotch inspired by Game of Thrones’ White Walkers

Johnnie Walker has worked with HBO to deliver a limited-edition product themed on hit TV show Game of Thrones.

The drinks brand has released a single malt scotch whisky inspired by Game of Thrones’ immortal ice villains who will spend the next season storming the Kingdom of Westeros. White Walker by Johnnie Walker is best served frozen and ties in with the upcoming launch of the show’s final season.

Whisky specialist George Harper created the new blend with the team at Johnnie Walker. The team claim the blend boasts caramelised sugar and vanilla, fresh red berries with a touch of orchard fruit. It also features single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish – some of Scotland’s most Northern distilleries. The bottle copy reminds readers that ‘Winter is Here’.

Harper said: “Whiskies from Clynelish have endured long, Scottish winters, not dissimilar to the long periods endured by the Night’s Watch who have ventured north of the wall – so it was the perfect place to start when creating this unique whisky.”

Jeff Peters, vice president of licensing and retail at HBO, added: “We knew there was fan appetite for a Game of Thrones whisky and once we saw the vision from Johnnie Walker for a way to collaborate we knew the idea was perfect and the time was now. From the beginning, they understood that we wanted to create something special, and they’ve accomplished that with White Walker by Johnnie Walker. We’re confident fans will enjoy sipping this delicious whisky as they wait for season eight and beyond.”

The product marks a wider partnership between the brand that will see eight scotches developed to tie into the Game of Thrones houses – pairing well with their unique attributes. The partnership will help pay for some of the grand battles HBO will be expected to showcase in the final run of the show.

White Walker by Johnnie Walker will be stocked globally, particularly in airports.

It is not the first time the frozen undead have been utilised to build a buzz around the show. Sky toured White Walkers down the UK to instill fear in fans.
