Western International College (WINC) have operated the UAE Franchise of the University of Bolton since 2008. Based in Ras al Khaimah, the centre has grown from humble beginnings, to winning the RAK Economic Zone (RAKEZ) Business Excellence Awards, scooping Best Educational Provider.
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) hosted the Annual RAKEZ Business Excellence Awards on the evening of 23rd January 2020 where the winners were announced live. Mr Raj Nambiar Director of WINC was present to
collect the award, presented by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) and Ramy Jallad, Group CEO, Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ). The Runner Up place was awarded to University of West London, RAK who were represented by their Vice Chancellor Professor Peter John CBE.

The awards have the mission of inspiring excellence to a community of more than 14,500 business from all over the world, RAKEZ recognised the best free
zone and non-free zone companies under its umbrella, those that have played a key role in the economic development of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
WINC Director Raj Nambiar said “Being notified that we were shortlisted was exciting enough, but having shone through against the stiff competition, it is a real testament to the maturity of our Academic Centre, the competence of our staff and most importantly the achievement of our students. We are honoured to be recognised for our efforts and thank RAKEZ for their ongoing support. It’s no coincidence that all our communication at University of Bolton, for over almost a decade, ventured at being the Best Value British Education provider in the UAE. This Award bears testimony to us going beyond talking the talk to walking the walk “.
The awards required WINC to demonstrate how the Academic Centre has contributed to the development of the Emirate as well as outlining plans for growth. A large part was proving the innovation and the preparation of students for the world of employment. Thanks to WINC’s extensive internship programme, underpinned by the embedded University of Bolton Graduate
Attributes, it proved WINC to be a cut above the rest.
Raj Nambiar explained; ” Excellence @ WINC, University of Bolton, RAK Academic Centre is a journey and not a destination. We have miles to go before we leap. Winning this category is only the start. Our Academic Centre will go from strength to strength, with the backing of the University of Bolton, and we are excited about the addition of even more new programmes this year. We are looking forward to defending our crown for years to come! ”.
